Graphic Recording

Are you planning an important meeting or event?

Do you want to do something unique and memorable?

Would it be helpful to have a visual summary of key thoughts, insights and agreements ... to help you remember the main points and share them with others?

I invite you to consider graphic recording your next event!

_
Graphic recording is a unique and effective method for capturing the essence of group dialogue, business meetings, and keynote addresses in a highly visual format. Dialogue is graphically recorded live, in real time, as people are speaking. This powerful visual tool maximizes meeting effectiveness by helping participants to see the main points and the interrelationships between them as the meeting progresses.

_How it Works...
In graphic recording, I work in tandem with other facilitators and keynote speakers (rather than facilitating the session myself as I do in my interactive group graphics and graphic coaching work). As a graphic recorder, I work quietly off to the side, listening intently, and using colourful images, words, and icons to record key points, insights, and emotions. As people are speaking, I capture their contributions on large, wall-sized sheets of paper, reflecting back to them the wisdom of their words, feelings, and insights. The end result is a vibrant and informative visual summary of your essential discussion points. This visual summary lends an inspiring energy to the work, becoming a catalyst for future conversations

Graphic recording draws out the best in you by transforming dialogue into a powerful visual map that not only enhances clarity and decision-making, but also nurtures participation, creativity, and communication.

What are the IMMEDIATE benefits of graphic recording?

DURING your meeting or event GRAPHIC RECORDING:

Promotes Clear Thinking
Allows people to ‘see what they mean’ and what others mean. This increases clarity, comprehension and empathy.

Increases Engagement
Seeing people’s words visually represented as they speak helps participants to focus and track the discussion.

Boosts Participation
People’s contributions are made visible. This acknowledgement increases engagement, which in turn, leads to greater participation.

Enhances Collaboration
Reveals and gives merit to diverse points of view. Literally ‘gets everyone on the same page.’

_Optimizes Learning and Retention
Research shows that up to 84% of the population are visual learners and that people retain up to 40% more information when it is presented visually.

Learning and retention are optimized when people are engaged and energized (a state rarely induced by traditional meetings!). Graphic recording is a fun, novel and effective method of helping people to understand, integrate, and share ideas.

It serves as a powerful permanent reminder of your key thoughts, insights and agreements, becoming a catalyst for future conversations. Post it in your workplace or share it with others via the World Wide Web.

The Process

Pre-Event
The graphic recording process can be immediate or it can begin even before the day of your event! Mission statements, key concepts, visions, agendas, timelines and templates in large, colourful format all help to enhance the experience. A prep meeting can make “pre-charting” possible so that from the moment they walk into the room participants are in a one-of-a-kind environment that is an inspiring, focused zone.

This client did not yet have a title in mind, but they knew what themes would be included in their dialogue. I did this much pre-charting to focus participants and get their session off to a good start.
_

Real-Time
During the event, I create a mural of what is being said using colour, words, pictures and symbols.

Participants see their words unfold before them, as they speak, and realize they are an integral part of the process.

Listening becomes a whole-brain activity from the start, stimulating the visual and kinesthetic thought processes that are often left dormant during verbal presentations.

_Post-Event
All charts are digitized after the event, and sent to the client. They can be used for anything from reports, websites, and blogs, to screen-savers and desktop “reminders”. The original charts are the property of the client. They can be laminated and used as a springboard for related meetings or displayed on an office wall to reinforce the session.
